A cozy place for yarn lovers.

Hello World!

By

Hello world.

Such a wonderful starting phrase to this newest adventure. It simply says “Hi. Here I am. Let’s go!”

A few years ago, I started out on a similar adventure to this one, with an eye to start selling yarn and fiber online. I didn’t get very far, just a few craft fairs and local events. Learned a lot of things along the way. One of the biggest things I learned was that I didn’t want to just sell yarn, I wanted to be a part of a community.

Fiber arts is also a passion of mine and I would stand firmly on the ground that one crafting style wasn’t any better than another and that fiber arts were for everyone. I would listen to a lot of people talk about how they could do one, like crochet, knit, felt, etc., but that was it. They wanted to learn more but had a hard time finding someone to teach them.

Often, I would hear “I watched YouTube and it made no sense.” I’ve spent some time in education and I know that not everyone learns the same and adult learners learn very differently from when they were young. There is no shame in how you learn if you’re learning.

Well, while I have an eye to one day open my cozy little yarn store where we drink tea and sit by the fireplace to work on our projects and listen to soft music and swap recipes and crafting tips, I am perfectly content to start doing that online with all of you.

Maybe you’ll find me in the local public library some Saturday morning holding a class on knitting.

Maybe you’ll download a pattern I wrote and want to talk about yarn choices online.

Maybe you’ll run into me at a fiber fest and say “Oh, it’s that Thistlepenny person! Wonder if she’s found the next bit of pottery for her collection? I bet she found the good yarn.”

Maybe you’ll sit down next to me at the Teahouse and watch me knit for 30 minutes before asking me what I’m working on.

A sense of community is an awesome thing. It’s also important. So, I decided to go community first this time. I think it’ll be a much better formula.

So, hello world. I hope I haven’t kept you waiting too long.
